Native American Made Chakwaina Warrior Katsina Doll by Sammie Walker (Navajo-Hopi)

Esteban the Moor (Chaquoma or Chakwaina) is originally from the Rio Grande Pueblos. He represents Esteban who was a guide for an early expedition in search of the Seven Cities of Gold and was killed at Zuni. This is a wonderful piece that is created in a style that is unusual today. Very few of the artists make the Native American dolls this way. The action is wonderful and the carving, painting and details are fabulous.
